If you plan to use a Philippine driver’s licence for a driving licence or temporary driving permit application in China, the translation can usually be arranged before you arrive. The important part is to provide a complete copy of the licence and tell us where and how you plan to use it.
Different Chinese cities may have slightly different requirements for foreign driving licence translations. We therefore confirm the application city and intended vehicle type before preparing the final document.
What Do You Need to Provide?
For the translation itself, we do not need your passport. Please provide the following information and documents:
- clear colour scans or photos of both sides of your Philippine driver’s licence;
- the city in China where you plan to apply;
- whether you intend to drive a manual or automatic transmission car;
- your Chinese name.
A Quick Note on Philippine DL Codes and Conditions
Philippine licences may contain several DL Codes as well as separate driving conditions. These details form part of the licence and need to be reflected accurately in the Chinese translation.
For example, one Philippine licence we handled showed B, B1 and B2, together with Condition 1. In that case, Condition 1 indicated that the driver must wear corrective lenses while driving, and the Chinese translation included that restriction.
Where the Chinese vehicle administration office requires it, we can also add the relevant Chinese driving category to the translation. This is one reason we ask about both the application city and whether the client intends to drive a manual or automatic vehicle.
How Does the Translation Process Work?
The process is straightforward. First, send us clear images of both sides of the licence together with the application city, intended vehicle type and Chinese name.
We then prepare the Chinese translation according to the original licence and the information required for the application. The translation is issued with the translation company’s official seal, together with the supporting company documents normally required for submission.
Once completed, we send you a stamped scanned copy for reference. The paper version is then sent by courier; for clients who have not yet arrived in China, we commonly send it to their hotel in advance, with the envelope addressed under the same name used for the hotel reservation.
This means the translation can already be waiting for you when you check in. It can save time if you plan to deal with the driving procedure soon after arriving in China.
Why Does the Application City Matter?
Foreign driving licence translation requirements are not completely identical across China. Some vehicle administration offices have their own preferences concerning the translation provider, company seals, supporting documents or the way the corresponding Chinese driving category is shown.
For this reason, tell us the city of application before the translation is prepared. If the local vehicle administration office later asks for a specific wording or format adjustment, we can revise and reissue the translation according to that requirement.
